The following questions will be before voters this November:
- Measure A - High School Funding Renewal. To provide continued funding to retain teachers, credentialed librarians, academic and career counseling programs and counselors for at-risk youth, shall the high school district of the Santa Cruz City Schools renew without increase its existing assessment of $28 per year per parcel for seven years, beginning July 1, 2006, exempting parcels owned/occupied by senior residents aged 65 and older, with independent community oversight and accountability to ensure funds are used only to improve student learning?
- Measure B - Elementary School Funding Renewal. To provide continued funding to retain teachers, art and music programs, credentialed librarians and counselors for at-risk youth and students with academic needs, shall the Elementary District of the Santa Cruz City Schools renew without increase its existing assessment of $70 per year per parcel for seven years, beginning July 1, 2006, exempting parcels owned/occupied by senior residents aged 65 and older, with independent community oversight and accountability to ensure funds are used only to improve student learning?
- Measure C - city of Scotts Valley. Shall a five-year temporary 0.5 percent sales tax rate increase be approved for the first three-year period and then reduced to 0.25 percent for the final two years be adopted to maintain general services including public safety, street improvements, and parks?
People interested in filing arguments for, or against, the measures may obtain additional information from the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections Department.
Arguments for and against the school measures must be filed by 5 p.m. Friday with the County Clerk/Elections Department at 701 Ocean St., Room 210, Santa Cruz.
Arguments for or against the Scotts Valley City measure must be filed by 5 p.m. Friday with the Scotts Valley City Clerk, 1 Civic Center Drive, Scotts Valley.
Arguments must not exceed 300 words. In addition, arguments must be accompanied by a signed "Signature Statement" form available from the elections official or online at www.votescount.com.
The form is contained in the "Guide to Writing Arguments" on the Elections Department’s Web site.
Only one argument for and one argument against the measures will be printed in the Voter’s Information Pamphlet. Should more than one argument be filed, the elections official will choose one to appear in accordance with the law.
